Honestly, although I found a passion for design, I have spent the past 7 years focusing on hair. Hair designers, yes I could go on (each of my favorites in categories such as color, architectural cutting and texture) to the point of boredom. But I will save anyone who reads this, their sanity from my personal obsession.
Design is everywhere from hair to art to packaging, isn't it all design? We design are own little worlds, from color on our walls, to how we style hair, from choosing clothing that fits the occasion, to painting each one of our nails. Each of us pick thing that describe who we are based on design. Design reaches everyone on such a deep and emotional level.
The first group I choose someone who has influence my mother and my father. They made albums, when albums where treasures, back when my mother ran out of the house in scarf as shirt and hopped into her new green mustang and blasted her music. A group called Hipgnosis designed the iconic Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon. They inspired a whole generation of people, over 40 years later people still where the album as a badge of honor. The album cover has now created a statement, 'This is me, and I am the Dark Side of the Moon'. Pink Floyd doesn't describe myself or my parents but, that one symbol is plastered on college dorms all over america. I have listened to the entire album over 10 times not based on my will, but someone who just had to share the Floyd experience. The design itself describes the album beautifully. Harmony at its finest.
I can't really describe how he is amazing, he just is. This year he is up for D&AD Executive Awards for Design Company. Only two is needed, but when taking in an extreme amount of information I found a person I admire, he truly values color/light, reflexion and absorption. Eric Cahan.
Understanding design the industry and all of it's creative weirdos, is essential to any project. How can you create something without knowing what and who your creating with? Knowing who are leaders and what is popular, is a foundation to any projects (or as the brits say briefs). Understanding what websites to visit (aka designweek, grafik, creative review, baseline, novum, graphis, design observer, and its nicethat) is the beginning into the rabbit hole. Each link sinks you further into a vast depth of the industry. In order to design we as students need to understand our settings. Research and a general curiosity is part of the passion in designing. Without passion very little can succeed. Each designer is passionate about design and has understood their settings in order to push the envelope wider.
