Task 8

Design thinking is completely what makes up this course. This course is the evolution and development of an idea and finding the most effective way to communicate it. First it starts off with a brainstorming/ finding the connective layers to one orignal idea. Expanding on those separate layers and developing context within. Researching all separate layers to create a firm foundation. Concluding the information, then reflecting it into the work. Test again to make sure the idea has progressed in the right direction. Create prototypes test those prototypes and make adjustments. Always reflecting back on the work for personal growth and development. Design thinking is being completely aware and well thought out approach to design.

Sustainable design falls into the thought process, always keeping in mind the effects of everything you put out. Is it keeping the development and well being of people and making sure that it doesn't contribute to green house gases, and decomposes and is composed in a eco friendly way.

Fourth Order of Design is: it is an acton of though and evaluation on the current constructs of the 21st century.
1) Symbol
2) Object
3) Action
4) Thought

Task 7

Advertising as long as it's an expressive art form is completely acceptable. Manipulating the system in order to target a specific market is completely unethical. In the ethically diverse place of the United States, advertising is taken to a whole new level. Facebook even screens for what each user puts on, each of the ads are screened and targeted for gender, age, religion, and sexual preference. I posted before about toxic sludge each, which basically focused on the grey area of advertising. Grey meaning in which advertisers write news coverage and footage, such as pharmaceutical companies, in order to achieve publicity about new drugs.

In the United States it is common practice to sensationalize to defeat competition, also to write and produce footage for the news and persent it as fact. Tabacco wouldn't be the notorious advertising kings if they didn't give falsified information to doctors in past and then promote it as fact. In Ken Garlands Manifesto he make note that designers should be aware of who they are designing for, political and financial agenda. Viral marketing and Guerrilla marketing can be construed as brain washing but to me can be a valued asset. The asset should belong to events, not to get people to like them on Facebook. It's overwhelming to have a team of Vodafone teenage employees ask you for your social security number. Guerrilla marketing belongs to party goers and musicians not in the corporate field. Viral marketing, on the other hand, is completely acceptable make a funny video on Youtube and people will watch.

Task 6

Design For Life
Product packaging is extremely important to the modern day community. With international communication and paperless routes packaging is on a fence. One side is useless garbage and the other is art. Since art cannot truly be defined, packaging and the value of, is circumstantial. Good packaging is specialized with in the luxury industry. From Christian Louboutin to fine chocolate higher marked goods make a profit off of packaging. The question is wether it still in the long run become garbage. Garbage being the Carbon Footprint you leave behind. Packaging designers are the front runner in designing the world into leaving creating something sustainable. "Filtainer is the latest filter for the KAF (the Kantian Arsenic Filter), a household drinking water treatment device used in developing countries. It removes arsenic, pathogens, iron, turbidity, odour, and contaminants from drinking water. All of these unfavourable substances, in particular arsenic, commonly exist in the ground-water of many countries. Filtainer was developed with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and ENPHO. It is user-friendly for a population that is poor and little or no education. All parts can be produced locally in developing countries via simple and low cost methods; all filtration substances can be found locally. Important design breakthroughs ensure safe and efficient water filtering, including clog-free performance by the patented Clogfree Flow Regulator." D&AD AWARD WINNER

In asheville and smaller hippy communities they specifically focus on using recycled or recyclable material. At a chocolate shop they specifically use all organic food and sell environmentally conscious products.
