"The Thinking for a Living Network

The Thinking for a Living Network is built on friendship, passion and a dedication to the craft of design. The Network is an alliance of like-minded individuals who are experimenting with publishing and education through a series of topic specific sites, conferences, workshops and publications. The Network includes Thinking for a LivingThe Grid System, AisleOne,Design Facts, The Design Manifesto, More Substance, and Thought & Theory and is organized by Shane Bzdok, Antonio Carusone, Frank Chimero, Ian Coyle, J. Ellis and Duane King."

This network connects similar designers and shows off their approach and thought process in design. The website above sent me into a worm hole of layers of design companies with strong corporate and socially responsible behaviors.

Although they are not a design company they do redesign and organize companies to be socially responsible
1. Grafik:
Graphic takes on many projects in which focus on social responsibility, or corporations whom main focus is making the world a better place to live in.

Task 4

Thinkpublic
Think public is based on public and social responsibility. There plan is to design the world into a better place with well thought out ideas and communication between the public and corporate markets. From health care, government and corporate responsibility they reshape ideas to fit the desires of the people.

 Wikileaks

Much like Michael Moore wikileaks has created a world of divulging information to the public. Wikileaks gives keeps american government in line by providing much needed information to the public. The controversy: is this information aiding the public or taking apart the American government? The American government has been irresponsible in the past and now is in financial crisis. The people of the world deserve to be treated as intelligent human beings and have the right to be informed.

In the future I plan to support worth while cooperation's with a conscious.

I have come from an extremely ethical background. Not only has the salon I have worked for always maintaing to be as environmentally conscious as possible. The new salon is developed to reuse all the remaining parts from the demolition. Also recycling all everything including hair. We collect then send away the hair in order to be put into nets to absorb oil spills. My mother runs a non-profit organization that intakes annual death rates of infants and develops prevention programs. She was also an bereavement specialist while she was a social worker (meaning she would handle deaths and abuses of infants and pregnant women.)

In my business I plan on developing well thought out and planned ideas which create and generate the most amount of success with out creating trash. I believe that people should hold themselves responsible for what they produce in the world. Whatever I say and create I should stand behind. Understanding how the world can perceive material and acting as if your audience is not dumb and manipulative sheep can produce well thought out planned work.

Task 3

The people whom have influence motion graphics and 3d animation is fairly new endeavor.  Ed Ulbrich has pioneered and set the stage for 3d animation they have raised the bar by recreating a realistic human head for Benjamin Button. This project took over 7 years to develop. In the 3d animation world this was the Holy Grail; most people did not dare replicate a human head for the shear time and money it would take.

Another pioneer to me  is greyscalegorrilla giving advice and tips on how to advance skills sets of 3d animation and motion graphics. Nick Campbell is the leader of the this blog. Current trends that progressed in the computer world is mirrors the graphic world KISS. Motion graphics are moving towards simplicity having a clearly developed idea that conveys a beautiful message.

With why not and title sequences that Kyle Cooper has made both try and express emotions through typography. Typography as he said is basis for motion graphics. Type is decides where the emotional content exists. In the movie Gattica type is illegible in the beginning the slowly forms into words. In the past the words hidden and now words convey are direct and delivered quickly.

The future of motion graphic and animation is conveying the most amount of emotion with out using people. Creating a scene, a mood, a feeling in just a few seconds. As Kyle Cooper said “you never mad me cry,” he try’s to capture the feeling of the film and compress it into a few minutes. The future of graphics is simple and emotional.

Task 2

Let's start with a place I refer to as HELL in the wayfinding world

WEAKNESS- IKEA

This place is an EVIL genius, a mind-field of show rooms and things you spend hours trying to find. I went to go look for sheets spent two hours look pick up the sheets and yet it still took me another 1hr and 1/2 to get out of the store. The genius is that you will buy more cause you are forced to wonder. To me I don not like IKEA for this reason, I hate the way it traps you. The whole experience leaves you with regret and a headache.

Strength- London Zoo very easy to navigate and easy to leave.

Signs are clear and to the point the map clearly indicates where you are according to animal and landmarks and signs point you in the direction of which animal is on route.

Warning signs are also very clear (pictorially)
Strength- Gasparilla Parade Map

Gaparilla is a celebration in my town of Tampa Florida of when the pirates invaded Tampa Bay. To celebrate this occasion everyone in town dresses up as a pirate or wench and gets inebriated. This public intoxication has made the Gasparilla route very simple.
literally a straight line just look for water

90% are intoxicated

Task 1

Most of the time I feel very overwhelmed by type. Type or creating a new font can be monotonous. Type is beautiful and can convey a message or let message speak for itself. The love of type started and ended with design.

As a girl I created my own fonts practicing my signature with curls and bubble letters. Putting heart and swirls over i's and finding a whimsical flair with t and k. I would create letters that would have cute sayings and private jokes between friends; outlining each word with secondary colors which correlated with the theme of the message. Once I started using a computer my love for type vanished. HOURS wasted time detailing a terrible font.

Maybe if I got to create font this way I would really enjoy it!
My favorite font always looks in motion. Wether it has curly letters or a 3 dimensional background.
So far I have fallen in love with this motion type created by NICK CAMPBELL. It is spectacular!
so girly but beautiful

When I have to choose something more conservative I always go for a 1920's font thin fancy letters. When I want more of a business feel I go for something that says Lawyer
Usually I do not like serif on my favorite type but it depends on the look that the individual is going for.
My least favorite type has been futura. My boss would make me use it on everything and I hated it. If you have a favorite font do not over use it or impose it on other people, please. Futura is nice, like the absolute ads but all the time is bad. Comic Sans is always bad, it looks like a teacher said, "hey it looks like I wrote this, it's serious and playful." Just like overalls no adult should use Comic Sans save it for the lemonade stands.

I still write type and play around with whimsical letters but its more of an outlet of frustration. My sketch book during the design process uses a lot of curse word in pretty writing.
